International Self Care Day 2025: 10 Inexpensive Ways Relax Your Mind And Body

International Self-Care Day 2025: World Health Organisation recognised 24th July as the International Self-Care Day because self-care is a continuous practice that should be exercised 24/7, i.e., 24 hours and 7 times a week. 

Hurdles To Self-Care

Self-care is about a harmonious balance of a peaceful mind and healthy body. But in our fast-paced, capitalised world, checking in on oneself can be a difficult task. In a generation where being on the move is the virtue and resting is associated with slacking, self-care indeed is needed. 

But for many self self-care comes with a big budget that is out of their pocket. Self care as capitalism makes us believe, is a trip to the Bahamas, expensive Korean skincare, a color-themed bath time routine, or a hefty appointment at the nail salon. 

In reality, however, self-care is not all about splurging. Going out of the budget once in a while to make oneself is not wrong, but falling into the capitalist trap of emptying pockets for perceived notions of self-care can be tolling and inaccessible to many of us. 

Inexpensive Ways To Self-Care

Self-care is an easy and achievable practice of keeping yourself happy and well every day. So we have compiled 10 ways in which self-care can be inexpensive and accessible to people without financial restraint. 

Digital Detox

Mobile phones and laptops have sadly become the bane of our existence. You need to clock out of regular exposure to screen and sounds by digitally detoxing every day at a specific time.

Move Inwards 

We can always be busy observing and absorbing the things around us, so much so that we can not hear the chaos inside us. Take some time out away from people and external elements to move inwards in your thoughts. You can journal your thoughts or just talk out to yourself.

Turn your bath into a spa 

Now you do not need to buy fancy stuff for this one. Use your bath time or shower time as by extending it and incorporating soothing steps. Like an Epsom salt soak for feet. Adorn the place with available candles, some soft music, and your favourite scent in the air, some drops of essential oil in the water you are going to shower with, and more. 

Go back to the art/craft you enjoyed as a kid and try to do it again with no expectations for it to be presentable or perfect. This is not to go on your Instagram feed but act as a reminder of who you are in your space. 

Move your body

From gym, to at-home exercise, yoga or light stretches, Zumba, run, Bhangra, or whatever movement that brings you joy, make it a part of your routine for at least 25-30 minutes.

Make a high-protein breakfast

Cooking is therapeutic. Even if you do not know how to cook, attempt to cook a high-protein breakfast for yourself. You can use a YouTube tutorial or help from someone who can cook. This is also a nod to eating well to feel well.

Make a list of healthy snacking options that are also tasty and start preparing them for the week. 

Stargaze/Cloudgaze 

When was the last time you just lay on a comfy mat or blanket and stared at the infinite sky and thousands of twinkling stars? It is about time to do it.

Practice self-massage.YouTube tutorials can come in handy.

Spend time with people who calm you

Human touch is a solution to many things. Go to your people and spend time with them to feel yourself and the things that bring you joy. 

Remember, self-care is not an expensive show you put on for the world; it is the nights of deep sleep, rest, and recovery before you head onto the stage, who you are.
