Nimisha Priya Case: An Indian citizen working as a nurse in Yemen, and running her own clinic with a local business partner, Talal Abdo Mehdi, was sentenced to death on 16 July for killing Mehdi under the Sharia rule of Yemen.
The Indian government was trying to stall her execution and find a way to save her, but now they have reached their limit. “There is a point till which the Government of India can go... we have reached it,” the Attorney General told the court.
The offering of “blood money”, the institutional punishment for unintentional killing in Yemen, has been denied by the man’s family, who say it is a matter of “honor”, leaving Priya with the final punishment of a death sentence.
