World Olympic Day 2025: Every year, 23 June is celebrated as the World Olympic Day to commemorate the rekindled flames of the ancient Olympic games in the shape of modern Olympics. Carrying forward the spirit of displaying one’s human potential via the means of athletic vigor.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) recognised 23rd June as the World Olympic Day to commemorate the founding of the modern Olympic movement, dating back to 23 June 1894, in Paris.

Mary Kom on Netflix 

Starring Priyanka Chopra in the titular role of Olympic boxer MC Mary Kom, the film traces the journey of Mary Kom as an ordinary girl from Manipur with a conservative father who did not approve of her boxing. From running away from home to learn boxing to becoming the only Indian female boxer to have qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics, the film is a story of her hardships and victories. She won a bronze medal at the Summer Olympics.

Chandu Champion on Prime Video 

Based on the life of Murlikant Petkar, India’s first Paralympic gold medalist, Chandu Champion stars Kartik Aaryan in the lead role of Petkar. Honored with the Padmashree, Petkar won an individual gold medal in the 1972 Summer Paralympics in Heidelberg, Germany. 

An ace boxer, Petkar was a Jawan in the Indian Army and got disabled in the 1965 war against Pakistan, which made him turn to sports like swimming and table tennis.  

Sania on Prime Video 

Sania Nehwal created history as the first Indian badminton player to win an Olympic medal. Sania starring Parineeti Chopra in the titular role of Nehwal, is a film that follows the trajectory of Sania’s dream from facing troubles in pursuing the sport in Hyderabad to the turbulence of her relationships with her coach. Nehawal is also the first Indian to have reached the final of the BWF World Championships.

An iconic Indian athlete, Milkha Singh aka ‘The Flying Sikh’ has represented India in the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne, the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome, and the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
