Home Remedies: Constipation is a common health problem caused by poor eating habits, low water intake, and a sedentary lifestyle. However, it is treatable with easy and natural home remedies. The first is Isabgol (psyllium husk), a natural fibre supplement high in soluble fibre. When combined with water or milk, it produces a gel-like substance that softens the stool and promotes intestinal movement. It is recommended to take one to two teaspoons with lukewarm water or milk before bedtime or right after meals. The second remedy is Triphala, an Ayurvedic combination of Amla, Baheda, and Harad. It is known for its laxative effects, which help with digestion and encourage regular bowel movements. It can be taken at night with lukewarm water or honey.
The third cure is flaxseeds, which function as a natural laxative due to their high concentration of soluble and insoluble fibres. Flaxseeds also include omega-3 fatty acids, which help reduce inflammation in the digestive tract. A daily dose of one teaspoon of powdered flaxseeds with water, or added into curd, smoothies, or oatmeal, is advantageous. The fourth remedy is ghee and warm water, an Ayurvedic practice in which the beneficial fats in ghee lubricate the intestines and aid with stool movement. Consuming one teaspoon of ghee with warm water or milk before bedtime or on an empty stomach is advised. Finally, papaya is a digestive superfood that contains the enzyme papain, which promotes digestion and relieves constipation due to its high fibre and water content.
