Brain Health: It is critical to recognise that not all headaches are the same; some can indicate significant neurological diseases such as migraine, brain stroke, or brain tumour. While all three can cause headaches and dizziness, the causes, symptoms, and medical implications are very different. Migraine is a neurological condition marked by throbbing pain on one side of the head, which is frequently accompanied by nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to light or sound, and visual distortions known as auras. Migraines, while rarely a medical emergency, are frequently induced by stress, hormonal changes, a lack of sleep, or particular foods, and they can have a significant impact on quality of life.
In contrast, a brain stroke is a medical emergency caused by a blockage or rupture of blood arteries in the brain. Symptoms include sudden facial drooping, arm weakness, speech difficulty, confusion, acute headache, and loss of balance, which are summarised by the acronym FAST (Face, Arm, Speech, Time). High blood pressure, diabetes, smoking, and cardiovascular disease are all common risk factors. Meanwhile, a brain tumour is characterised by abnormal cell proliferation in the brain and can be either benign or malignant. Its symptoms, which appear gradually, include recurrent morning headaches, nausea, memory troubles, personality changes, seizures, and vision impairments. Imaging tests, such as a CT scan or MRI, are often required for diagnosis.
